MDC applauds the 14 Harare Councillors

In a statement released by the Movement for Democratic Change T today, the party applauded 14 City of Harare Councillors for “standing firm in support of the party values of constitutionalism, participatory democracy and inclusivity in the recent council election”. The party stated that the election was was not about individual gratification but protecting and upholding our values and principles.

Below is the full statement:

The MDC applauds the 14 councillors for standing firm in support of the party values of constitutionalism, participatory democracy and inclusivity in the recent council election for Harare Mayorship. The 14 demonstrated their loyalty and principled stance in defense of our founding values.

The recent council election was not about individual gratification or assuaging of personal glories. The MDC -T maintains the election was about protecting and upholding our values and principles.

Above all it was a demonstration of our unbridled resolve to return the party to it’s founding values and we are emboldened by the support of the 14 councilors towards this vision.

We remain guided by our principles which are sacrosanct and which we can not sacrifice on the alter of expediency.

As we prepare our Extra Ordinary Congress we remain focused on resolving the legitimacy question and putting back our party as the only genuine alternative government with genuine solutions to the suffering people of Zimbabwe.

To this end we envisage a leadership that is Accountable and Transparent in the delivery of services to the people of Harare and many other local authorities.

We are therefore committed to giving the people of Harare and the rest of other local authorities, a smart leadership with the best interests of the people of this great city.

Together we will realise this dream of a Smart leadership and a smart Cities in Zimbabwe.
