Councillor Luckson Mukunguma has been nominated by MDC-T Harare Province as candidate for Mayor of the City of Harare after the removal of Herbert Gomba, who is facing various corruption charges.
Cllr Mukunguma, 45, is a well known business man and former Old Mutual Zimbabwe employee, who has fully endorsed the Supreme Court judgement. The Ward 25 Councillor is a family man who shuns corruption and desires to change the direction of the city.
“Our council has faced severe service delivery challenges. If fellow councillors see it fit to elect me as Mayor, I will work closely with all stakeholders of the city including the residents, to eradicate corruption, to change the direction of city, to remove political activism in council and introduce and restore proper service delivery. Harare residents deserve more,” said Cllr Mukunguma.
Meanwhile, the MDC-T party is united in seeking to vote in Cllr Mukunguma to be the next Mayor as demonstrated by a recent communique from Harare Province. The document indicated that any MDC-T Councillor who will nominate and second any other candidate will be recalled from council. The party has cracked the whip on errant deployees recently.
“If the MDC-T councillors in Harare fail to vote in a candidate approved by the party, it will be better to recall them all so that the Minister appoints a commission to run the affairs of the city. Party deployees must follow party positions on these issues,” said an MDC-T party official who refused to be named.
