Chamisa plots Mwonzora downfall

Nelson Chamisa

In a sudden and surprising twist of events, some 2014 Chairpersons of the MDC-T and other members of the Chamisa led Alliance Party, met yesterday at an exclusive lodge in Harare to try and chart a way to dislodge the current MDC-T Secretary General from his post in the run up to the Extra Ordinary Congress set for 31 July 2020. Sources who attended the hurriedly convened meeting stated it was attended by people from the MDC Alliance Party led by Nelson Chamisa, and a few other known individuals.

The source stated that some of the people who attended included Messers James Gumbi, Ralph Magunje and Eric Murai. The three gentlemen are former 2014 Chairpersons of Harare, Mashonaland West and Masvingo and have since declared allegiance to Nelson Chamisa’s MDC Alliance Party.

The key item of the agenda was to explore possible ways of removing Sen Mwonzora from his position before the EOC. There is growing fear in many political corridors that Senator Mwonzora is now the leading contender for MDC-T presidency. If Senator Mwonzora is elected President, he is most likely going to put a lid on many political careers as well as provide a formidable challenge to Zanu PF in 2023.

Senator Mwonzora has been on crusade to unearth corrupt and criminal activitities that happened just before and after the death of founding MDC leader, Morgan Tsvangirayi. In his speech in Marondera over the weekend, Sen Mwonzora stated that he has proof of all the activities and the wrong doers. Some of the possible accused hold high level positions in the Alliance Party, hence the effort to thwart his bid for the presidency. Efforts to get a comment from MDC Alliance Party Secretary General Charlton Hwende were unsucceful as he was not picking up his phone. Senator Mwonzora who is currently on Parliament business in Bulawayo refused to comment
