In the the never ending drama of the Harvest House, youths alleged to belonging to Advocate Nelson Chamisa faction unsuccessfully tried to physically wrest the property from the Dr Thokozani Khupe faction this morning. According to eyewitnesses, about 50 youths were dropped off at 44 Nelson Mandela in open trucks, and tried to manhandle the security manning the property but were quickly subdued and ran off. Efforts to get a comment from Mr Charlton Hwende were unsuccessful as he is not answering his phone and not responding to messages. The current occupants however have just released a statement, below:
This morning, a group of approximately 50 youths sent by partyless Nelson Chamisa tried to storm Harvest House but were repelled and overpowered by MDC security.
The youths were led by Happymore Chidziva, Amos Chibaya, Murisi Zvizvayi and Starman Chamisa, a brother to Nelson. The rebels wanted to prevent and stop the Standing Committee meeting that is currently in progress inside Harvest House. They also attempted to prevent our Secretary for Security from entering the building and again failed.
After their attempt was foiled by our alert and resolute security and youths, the rebels retreated in confusion. We currently do not have any reports of injuries.
Mr Chamisa and his team are aware that the matter of the legitimate occupants of Harvest House is before the courts and that we hold a peace order preventing any of his proxies from entering the building. We condemn in the strongest manner these barbaric and violent acts meant to destabilise the peace and security in the Harare Central Business District.
We will not be intimidated by violence and hooliganism. We will deal with these acts according to the law. We wish to assure the MDC family that our home Harvest House, is safe and secure.
Our Standing Committee continues to meet within the building. We are fully focused on the issues at hand, that include our advanced preparations for Extra Ordinary Congress scheduled for the 31st of July 2020.
Victory is certain.
